sterns edits returns after the sell-out success of its debut edition with another two catalogue reworks from ben gomori. this time he turns his attention to burkina faso s much-loved taxi-driver-turned-singer, amadou balaké. balaké ( porcupine in mandinka) is burkina faso s proudest musical export, and in 2013 he recorded his final album before passing away: in conclusion. the record saw him revisit some of his most popular tracks from his remarkable 50-year career, backed by an eight-piece burkinabé band who took the country s traditional sounds and brought them into a contemporary light. gomori retains the essence of the original recordings which were mostly captured in one take and marries them to vigorous afro-house stylings. bar konon mousso (musicien c est pas quelqu un) in which balaké tells of a bar lady being unimpressed by his profession, gets a gentle push towards the modern dancefloor, its wonderful sax lines resplendent. massa kamba is taken for a drive down the more traditional route, with commanding drums bolstering the original grooves and a marvelous triple harmony brass section at its core. balakes freewheeling style suits the hypnotic feel of the edits to a tee. sterns edits is an official collaboration between african music stalwarts sterns music and london s ben gomori.

duat (pronounced do-aht) was the realm of the dead in ancient egyptian mythology. the deity osiris was believed to be the lord of the underworld since he personified rebirth and life after death, being the first mummy as depicted in the osiris myth.the underworld was also the residence of various other gods along with osiris. the duat was the region through which the sun god re traveled from west to east each night, and it was where he battled apep, who embodied the primordial chaos which the sun had to defeat in order to rise each morning and bring order back to the earth. it was also the place where peoples souls went after death for judgement, though that was not the full extent of the afterlife. burial chambers formed touching-points between the mundane world and the duat, and the akh, the effectiveness of the dead, could use tombs to travel back and forth from the duat. duat (or duatrecords) is a label by amin fallaha and r100.

beauty and the beast is the latest in the series of special limited edition david bowie 7- picture discs being released and will be out on 5th january 2018, almost 40 years to the day of its original release on 6th january 1978. beauty and the beast was the second single taken from the album heroes, the second of the berlin trilogy albums recorded with tony visconti and brian eno at the legendary hansa studios in berlin. the track also features robert fripp of king crimson on lead guitar, who claims that his guitar was all recorded in his first take. the a-side of the 7- picture disc features the track with newly remastered audio, mixed by long-time bowie collaborator tony visconti. the aa-side is a previously unreleased live version of blackout, recorded live at deutschlandhalle, berlin on 16th may 1978 during the isolar ii tour.

réminiscences is a selection of 8 standards of the band revisited in a more punchy and electro style compared to the original versions but preserving what made the specificity of the opera multi steel sound. indeed, on boosted rhythms and fully re-recorded vocals, those new versions use sounds and “historical” instruments cherished by the band since its beginnings: tr 808, tr 606, tb 303, elex, casio vl-1, recorders, medieval choirs and various samples. the texts have been preserved in their entirety. the tracks are taken from albums such as cathedral (un froid seul, du son des cloches...) a contresens (les sens, las), les douleurs de l’ennui, la légende dorée (fureur en asie) and even from the very first vinyl ep of the band (massabielle). the artworks of the disc and sleeve, as well as the video clip coming together, have been realized by alan cassiano, who based his graphic work on visual atmospheres inherited from the very first vinyl ep of the band, using images taken from the encyclopedia (xviiith century) and perspectives by jan vredeman de vries (xvith century). finally, reminiscences is not a simple compilation of tracks, but rather a kind of travel through the different ages of opéra multi steel’s music rearranging/revisiting classic songs and images through nowadays eyes and ears.

the son of a radio dj who introduced him to the world of record collecting, harris grew up with music, progressing from violin, to high school drum line, to the jazz studies program at virginia commonwealth university. he also continued working with other instruments and developed an interest in sampling. his development as a producer at first, without a computer or sampler came first learning to replay samples on the drums, piano, bass or guitar. dj harrison finds himself inspired by local musicians in the richmond scene thats as diverse and nonexclusive as they come. among rappers, producers, punks and bluegrass bands, he falls within reach of an expansive pool of musicians to collaborate with. he lives and works in jellowstone, a house turned recording compound occupied by his band mates in butcher brown, a garage punk jazz funk group.

ok. this is an anthem. you know “dance” already, right? huge pal joey jam from way back in 1990? the one that flips carl bean’s “i was born this way” into the stratosphere? yeah, that’s it! except this is that track reimagined by 2 killer producers, flipped and edited into the cosmos by the new jersey legend kerri chandler and the west coast’s onionz, probably the only producers who could touch such a stone cold classic and actually bring something to the table! originally out in 2002 these 2 edits / mixes are total weapons, you need this 12” in your bag. everything is touched, tweaked and blended in just the right way and full respect is given to the mixes. this isn’t no fly by night re-edit thing, this is heavyweights bringing us some heat and their interpretation of a track that was obviously a huge deal for them on a personal level. do not snooze on this, masterfully repressed, with the full consent of everyone involved and remastered on a solid 12” for you all.
